'How do I reconnect with my Brother'.
John B, Whitchurch

Dear John,
Thank you for sharing your question about your present predicament. I was able to focus intently on your situation and the cards confirmed and revealed the following:

1. What Covers You
Your reading opens with the Five of Swords, a card of discord and hostility. It is also a card of self-interest, of looking after 'number one'. The image on the card shows a gloating swordsman beneath troubled thundering skies; his distressed and injured compatriots remain on the battlefield but are now swordless. In seemingly full awareness that they are remain there, he makes to leave the scene, and may even be taking their swords with him.

I gather from your question that you and your brother are estranged, and this card would seem to suggest that there is a feeling that you have let him down, either because of the time that you have allowed to elapse (if the estrangement is over some years), or because of something that happened between both of you in your past. Whatever the reasons may be you are covered with an atmosphere of not feeling right about this; as though morally you have done wrong, or there is a perception that you may have.

2. What Crosses You

In order for the atmosphere to clear, the contact needs to be made. Temperance governs harmony, balance and getting the 'right mix'; the combining together of two forces, in order to promote health and well being. But it is precisely this 'gathering together' of you both, that stands in your way, for you haven't been able to find the right way of bringing it about. It has become self-perpetuating, and it is your obstacle. The longer it continues the more the atmosphere of discord grows and so the bigger the obstacle becomes...

3. This is beneath you
The relationship needs a 'wake-up' call, a reconciliation, but not only that, forgiveness. Judgement is a strong card, being a major trump, and governs  rebirth and absolution, the releasing of guilt and sorrow. It is all about renewal, and courage will be needed if indeed the estrangement is linked to acts or words in the past.

4. This is behind you

The Knight of Swords bowls in on his horse without a care signifying sharpness, the intellect and mental fortitude, but also arrogance. Knights' can either help or hinder, be on your side or not, and in the present scenario it seems as though your logical side has perhaps rushed in and taken over. Your emotional side has barely had a look in…You were very sure of the (logical) position, but perhaps you were too frank and outspoken, or even upsetting. Whatever this card tells you in this predicament, the influence is passed. You are free of it! The armored unfeeling Knight has saddled his horse and is charging away from your predicament...

5. This crowns you

The High Priestess is wise and knowledgeable, and a lady of mystery open to intuitive influences. She has the sanctity of a darkened, shadowy chamber, in a secret closed-off area, shrouded in mystery and secrets. She is somewhere unknown and unreachable. Your aim in this matter is to seek that which is concealed and, with discussion and love, and bring it blinking into the light.

6. This is before you

You have decided a reconciliation/reconnection is what you want to happen. Not only that but that it is also much needed. You are certain of your position, however you may need to fight-off others to get there, like the man in the Seven of Wands, and in order to do so will need utter conviction, and all of your strength of character. You are standing up for what you believe to be morally right in choosing to make this move and this core morality will ensure your success. You are correctly situated, having the upper hand and being on upper ground, like the figure in the card he is fighting a good fight and does not look about to loose!

7. This signifies you

You have lit the dark corners, and are now filled with a warm light. The Sun represents yourself in this matter, and you are filled with recent enlightenment and assurance. You feel freer, and honouring your true self. This is glowing major trump indeed. You are almost there.

8. This signifies your house

Not surprisingly, your 'environment' and surrounding tendencies at present is suggested by the Two of Cups, the card of truce and connection. The Cups themselves signify our emotional life and so are governed by water, and the card itself shows us two persons coming together in reconciliation, we can see in this card the healing of a severed relationship, of forgiving and forgetting.

9. This gives your hopes or fears in the matter

The solid, still majesty of the glowing pentacle in the air signifies the trust and belief you must maintain in others in order to see this through. You are certain of your own position, trust that others will believe in you and that there is a support system of sorts.

10. This is what will come
The Tower is a card of revelation and sudden change; everything that is hidden will be exposed. It will be something of a shock (The Tower is not a gentle card!) and will involve emotional outburst, and some anger on more than one side, but the truth will be realised. I have drawn an additional card for you, It is The Star, a card of serenity and peace of mind. Your world will be better, and harmony is what will come; the light of the Star will guide you in your future relationship with your brother, but it is the shock of the Tower that falls first in same position, and seems both unavoidable and necessary.

Good luck to you and I wish you well
Harry
